How to Ensure You Reach Your Destination

There is a famous saying which states that” if you don’t know where you are going, you will probably end up somewhere else”. http://www.quotationspage.com/quote/353.html.  In other words, destination reaching is predicated upon knowing what your destination is.

Let say you wanted to take a road trip from Los Angeles, CA to Miami, FL. Let’s say that you wanted to get there in 5 days. What would you do to ensure that you got there on time? You would probably execute the following steps:

  • 1.       Determine how many miles are from Los Angles, CA to Mimai FL
  • 2.       Determine how many miles you needed to drive each day to get to your destination within the time frame allowed
  • 3.       Find the path that will allow you to get to Miami on time(Road Map)
  • 4.       Establish what you will need along the trip (Resources, food, money, )
  • 5.       Have your vehicle checked out to ensure that it is in the best condition to reach the destination.
  • 6.       On the day of the trip, check and double check to ensure that you have your roadmap and that all needed resources are accounted for.
  • 7.       As you are driving towards your destination, you will be checking the road signs to ensure that you are still on the right path. If you find that you are not, you will readjust to get bath on the right path.
  • 8.       If something expected happened along the way, say flat tire, over-heated vehicle, road block, detour, saying too long on a stop, you will make the necessary corrections, adjustment and get back on your path, probably even with a greater sense of urgency to make up for lost time.

Now, this is in now way an exhaustive list; there might be other minor steps that you take along the trip. The point is that you will execute a series of steps to ensure that you reach your destination on time.

Now, the million dollar question, "is a goal of reaching a road trip destination, any more important than reaching a weightloss goal, a health and fitness goal?" I argue no. No, in that if it is important to plan, execute and monitor a road trip to ensure you reach the destination, it is just as important to plan, execute and monitor a weight loss or fitness destination.

Below is a link to finding out what your dailiy caloric intake should be to reach a certain target weight http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm# (part of the road map). There are of course other steps which will be convered in other posts. But for now, you this calculation to determine what your caloric intake needs to be daily.
