Salad as a Snack or as a Meal? http://foodingn.com/catalog/images/garden_salad.jpg

Many people underestimate the power of a good salad to provide many essential nutritents while serving as a low calorie snack or meal. Below are two examples of a salad under 85 calories which one can use as one of his/her snack options. The second example adds some form of low-fat meat (either, tuna, chicken breast or turkey breast). Whichever choice of meat is selected, you are looking at no more than 243 total calories with the salad and meat combined.

Salad as a Snack  = 84 Calories

  • 4 leaves of Romaine Lettuce  = 16 Calories
  • 6 cherry tomatoes = 18 calories
  • 1 medium size carrot (shredded or thinly sliced) = 25 Calories
  • ½ cup of slice cucumber with peel = 8 Calories
  • 1 tbsp of fat free ranch dressing = 17 Calories

Salad As a Meal, adding one of the following = Under 250 Calories

  • 3 oz of White Tuna, canned in water, low sodium = 109 Caloires
  • 3 oz of Chicken Breast, roasted, = 138 Calories
  • 3 oz of Turkey Breast, roasted,  = 159 Calories

Do you eat salads? If not, what are the factors that prevent or stop you? I am curious to know if anyone have a favorite salad combination under 100 calories or even under 300 calories? Please share!
